This product is used to treat the herpes simplex infections of the skin as well as for the treatment and long-term suppression of genital herpes (a sexually transmitted disease that presents itself with painful, fluid filled blisters of the genitalia).
It is also used prophylactically (precautionary treatment) for genital herpes in immunocompromised (impaired immune system) patients.
